25201 - “Light, Flight, and Pure Joy”

The most amazing thing happened at Brookgreen Gardens -fall 2021! There, as a wedding guest, I happened upon a most surreal interaction inspired by holiday lights (hanging from tall moss laden trees) with a young couple inspired to dance in its brilliant glow. Their night time dance was that from the movie “Dirty Dancing” – the iconic flying jump with Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey ! In pure joy and spontaneity this scene, ELECTRIC & SACRED, happened in a flash!

The challenge, a night painting with atypical lighting effects required many adjustments to my normal process. Multiple trial runs, testing colors, technics and methods ensued. I couldn’t let it go without re-creating the joy of that beautiful scene.Working from a poor quick photo, my imagination and freedom of abstraction, allowed this ephemeral image to take flight again.
